From job pack review to signed reports — a practical PMI program for inspectors.
Workflow steps
1. Review isometric / line list / MTR requirements
2. Verify instrument calibration and check samples
3. Clean test surface (remove paint, scale if policy allows)
4. Select alloy mode and collimator size
5. Measure — capture GPS, photo, and timestamp
6. Compare to spec — Grade ID or element limits
7. Flag failures and escalate to lab if needed
8. Export PDF report with operator ID
Pro tips
- Always record where on the component you tested
- For welds, test parent metal and HAZ separately
- Use our [PMI Checklist](/en/pmi-checklist) in the field
